US court orders ON THE MARKET OF A GMO AS beets are destroyed (AFP)

WASHINGTON (AFP) – a Federal Court has ordered, the destruction of what is believed to be the first on the market of genetically modified crop by saying that the United States changed to sugar beets planted in an unlawful manner.

US District judge Jeffrey White California issued a preliminary injunction sought by the Center, Tuesday, food safety and other groups who argued that the sugar beet crops planted Monsanto produced without the appropriate environmental review.

He moves to the implementation of the order December 7 time to appeal.

White said in his request for a preliminary ruling, that "it is a significant risk that the authorisations referred to in the watering plants cause environmental harm."

He added that the contamination or plants to avoid cross pollination in spite of the efforts of was that THE GMO plants would not affect other plants, bulbs, roots and the lodging of a security.

Paul Achitoff Earthjustice, the applicants, the lawyer said, the Ministry of agriculture, which was, as the defendant in respect of the granting of authorisations "thumbed its nose in the judicial system and to the public by allowing this crop to be grown without the use of the analysis of the environment."

"Herbicide resistant crops, this has been shown to lead to more toxic chemicals in the soil and water," Achitoff said.

"USDA has demonstrated to the satisfaction of the report of the Committee on the environment does not take into account the laws, and we are pleased that judge White ordered in an appropriate manner."

The Center actively resist biotech crops, said, the case was the first in which the judge had ordered the destruction of the plantings.
