Instructor (Biotechnology) - Schenectady County Community College - Schenectady, NY
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Schenectady County Community College's Division of Mathematics, Science, Technology and Health invites applications for a full-time faculty position to lead our Biotechnology (A S.) and Biological Technician (A.A S.) programs and provide lecture and laboratory instruction in biology courses for non-majors and science majors. Other responsibilities include academic advisement, assessment, curriculum development, grant management, and service on college committees. This position reports directly to the Dean of Mathematics, Science, Technology and Health.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Teaching a full-time course load including Biology/Biotechnology course lectures and laboratories.
* Leading curricular development and assessment of biotechnology and biological technician degree programs.
* Initiating grant development to support the biotechnology program.
* Providing academic advisement to students.
* Holding office hours for students.
* Preparing and administering assessment instruments,
* Developing and revising biology courses that will support current programs and enable strong transfer opportunities.
* Participating in division activities including program reviews.
* Serving on College committees.
* Participation in recruitment and program information activities as requested.
* Performing other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
* A Master of Science in biology, biotechnology, molecular biology, or biochemistry
* The ability to teach lecture and laboratory courses covering topics in general biology, biotechnology, cellular and molecular biology, and/or genetics.
* Experience in grant development/management, curriculum and/or program development in a biotechnology-related field
* Recent professional work in a biotechnology or medical laboratory required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Ph.D. in biology, biotechnology, molecular biology, or biochemistry;
* Academic or professional background that includes experience with cellular and molecular biology techniques, cell culture, and/or biotechnology;
* Teaching at the community college level;
* Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practice regulations, Good Laboratory Practices, and documentation practices in accordance with government regulatory policies
* Working with diverse student populations.
REPORTING RESPONSIBILITY
The Biotechnology Instructor is a 10 month position and a Faculty Association Member. The Biotechnology Instructor will report directly to the Dean of Math, Science, Technology & Health.
