Instructor, Biotechnology FT (IN-A) - Milwaukee Area Technical College - Wisconsin

  • IN-A = Position will be offered to one of the three most senior, qualified internal applicants.
Under the supervision of the Associate Dean, to teach classes in the Life Sciences (Molecular Biology, Genetics, Microbiology) to associate degree students and serve as leader of the Biotechnology program. Related duties include student advising; participation in student outcomes assessment; curriculum development; coordination of the Biotechnology program; participation in current and future grant activities; participation in course and program articulation efforts; outreach to current and potential academic and business partners in Biotechnology in Southeast Wisconsin; and active participation in divisional and departmental activities.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
P repare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities. Manage the classroom/laboratory. Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation. Manage equipment, supplies and materials. Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues. Collaborate with advisory committee in program area. Attend departmental and institutional meetings. Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC. Support student organizations and activities. Develop relationships with business and industry. Complete program evaluation and follow-up. Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Must have a Master’s Degree in Life Science with at least 18 graduate credits in degree area; Ph.D. is preferred.
Must have one (1) year (2,000 hours) of full-time, non-teaching, occupational experience.
Post-secondary teaching experience in at least two of the following: Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology or Genetics preferred.
Ability to establish relationships with companies, industries, universities, government agencies, and other institutions to develop and implement strategies for creating and maintaining a biotechnology program with the objective of providing a trained workforce for the Milwaukee area and Wisconsin biotechnical industry preferred.
Experience in proposal development, grant writing, and grant implementation preferred.
Experience in innovative delivery strategies in instruction in the Life Sciences, including alternative delivery courses, is preferred.
Occupational experience in a microbiology lab is preferred.
Knowledge or experience with engaged and service learning strongly preferred.
Must be able to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
Must have knowledge of assessment of student academic achievement techniques.

Must meet Higher Learning Commission (HLC) standards (if applicable).
Must be able to relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds.
