Biotechnology Associate 2 - Yale University - New Haven, CT

The Biotechnology Associate is responsible for the day to day operations of a laboratory with significant expertise in the development and implementation of molecular methods for the purpose of converting research assays into clinical tests. Will oversee clinical validation, proficiency testing, regulatory compliance, document control, protection of PHI, and reporting of results.

1. Manages the daily activities of the laboratory.
2. Determines methods for clinical testing, followed by development, validating, and then implementing molecular testing.
3. Responsible for the training of clinical lab personnel and oversight of the overall R&D program.
4. Develops, Interprets, and analyzes the results of clinical projects.
5. Determines and establishes policies and procedures for the laboratory.
6. Develops and evaluates new techniques and equipment
7. Determines and establishes policies and procedures on laboratory safety
8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Principal Responsibilities
1. Manages the daily activities of a research resource laboratory. Oversees the scheduling, use, and availability of instrumentation, supplies, and specialized work areas.
2. Carries out biotechnology research design, develop, and modify procedures and instrument operating programs.
3. Develops, interprets, and analyzes the results of biotechnological analyses and/or syntheses.
4. Investigates, analyzes, and evaluates alternative instrumentation, methodologies and techniques to maintain a state-of-the-art biotechnology resource laboratory.
5. Recommends and develops new protocols and initiates and adapts new techniques to resolve problems.
6. Conducts research to determine the feasibility and scope of providing new/revised services. Develops and evaluates new techniques and equipment.
7. Prepares budgets and reports pertaining to laboratory costs and income.
8. Determines and establishes policies and procedures on laboratory safety consistent with University safety regulations.
9. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
Master’s Degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or other related discipline and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Required Skill/Ability 1:
Experience with writing code, LIMS, and billing programs.

Required Skill/Ability 2:
Ability to work independently.

Required Skill/Ability 3:
Experience in CT state regulations and inspections; experience in other state regulatory environs, including but not limited to NY state.

Required Skill/Ability 4:
Highly detailed oriented, superior organizational skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
PHD in Biological Sciences
