Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as the Global Biotechnology Laboratory Stewardship Lead within the Biotech Strategy Program. This leadership role provides oversight for the Global Quality Management System for the Biotechnology organization, including ensuring that appropriate risk management strategies, training and documentation are in place to support our Biotech trait and Microbials activities. The Laboratory Stewardship Lead will work across a broad cross-functional team of research platforms to execute value-added quality systems with focus on compliance and utilization of key performance indicators leading to improvement and continued product innovation. The team will directly lead a team of Quality professionals as well as a Seed Management group which is responsible for all regulated shipping and archival activities for Biotech out of the CV site.

Excellent project management, communication and influence skills are required to work across programs achieve desired results.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide oversight for a Global Biotech Quality Management System that includes Field Compliance, Trait Quality, and Seed Regulatory/Seed Movement programs. As part of this QMS, the lead will ensure that effective training and documentation are in place to sustainably perform Biotech research activities.

  • Lead a team of Quality and Compliance professionals to establish and enhance traceability and quality control testing processes to maximize efficiency and compliance with Monsanto testing standards globally.

  • Lead a team of seed management professionals responsible for movement and archive or regulated seed across the Chesterfield Village site.

  • Manage and execute a containment facility strategy and programs designed to meet regulatory requirements for working with pathogens across our research locations. Implement Quality and Compliance strategies for our emerging Microbials business, including support of containment and field practices where appropriate.

  • Provide strong focus on people and organizational development to leverage team strengths to meet growing complexity of our trait pipeline.
Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Bachelors or Masters with at least 5 years work experience or Ph.D. with at least 5 years work experience in a scientific or technical discipline (Agronomy, Biology, Biochemistry, etc.)

  • Experience developing and implementing quality management and compliance programs and audit systems within and across functions and organizations, preferably in biotechnology environment

  • Knowledge of US regulations specifying biotechnology field trial compliance and general knowledge of related ex-US regulation and industry standards

  • Experience developing successful cross-functional project strategies, plans and leading implementation through networks and teams

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to adapt communication style and content to influence leadership and facilitate interaction with a diverse audience.

  • Must be able to gather and interpret relevant technical information in order to present conclusions in a clear and concise manner.

  • Must be highly motivated, flexible, and able to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

Preferred Skills:
  • Risk based process improvement knowledge and experience, including application of six sigma, HACCP, LEAN type methodologies to develop quality systems and continuous improvement programs

  • Strong technical background and experience with biotechnology and agricultural products through various stages of the product life cycle.

  • Experience developing or managing quality management systems, such as ISO 9001 or GxPs. Quality auditing experience and/or experience developing audit programs.

  • 2+ years experience plant biotechnology field trial experience in a regulated environment
