Agenda Resource Management: Licensed Animal Technician

A research facility that delivers solutions to some of the world’s toughest health care issues is currently seeking a Licensed Animal Technician to cover a fixed term 12 month contract.

The job holder’s duties will include:

  • Assisting with the daily care and welfare of the animals.
  • Handling, feeding, watering and the cleaning out of rodents.
  • Routine animal husbandry such as observation, environmental monitoring and record keeping.
  • Routine observation of animals, which includes breeding pairs, stock and those on procedures, especially for signs of departure from good health.
  • Performing with regulated procedures.
  • General cleaning duties as required.
  • Taking part in Team discussions around current Scientific work

Candidate Requirements:

  • Previous work related background in keeping a range of rodents.
  • Computer literate, and able to learn the use of in-house software.
  • Previous background in keeping animals in a research environment.
  • A personal Home Office Licence under the (animals scientific procedures) Act 1986, or eligible to apply for a Home Office Licence under the Act.
  • An interest in assisting in the discovery of new and improved patient therapies.
  • An interest in Science and Animal care/welfare, preferably including circadian rhythms and sleep disturbance.
  • Must understand and comply with the Home Office regulations.
  • Able to provide care for animals on a 365 day year shared rota basis.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • GCSE’s or equivalent including Maths, English and a Science subject are desirable.
  • A graduate calibre individual.
  • Must be keen to further education in the field of Animal Technology or their research field.

The job holder will be required to join a rota for weekend work, and also an ‘On Call’ rota.
