Kelly Scientific UK: Laboratory Manager - 6 months contract
Do you have experience of managing staff, ideally in translation research environment?
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing organisation, the position will be responsible for the management of the virology laboratory facilities. The job holder ensures that laboratory equipment is maintained and kept in good working order, ensures that there are sufficient consumables and reagents for studies to be deployed at the bench. As the department grows the laboratory manager will procure more equipment and/or laboratory space as required.
Manage the equipment and laboratories (e.g. to ensure that the equipment are properly used, maintained, serviced and fit for their purposes);
- Maintain all licenses and required documents concerning calibrations, validation, and maintenance pertinent to the laboratories, equipment, and project-specific requirements;
- Track maintenance of equipment and proactively ensures maintenance and recalibration within designated frequency specifications;
- Assist in the selection of new equipment; oversees the training of staff on equipment and laboratory procedures;
- Identify materials and consumables to be used in the laboratories, monitors stock usage and coordinates the ordering of supplies via the Site Operations Manager as necessary to keep laboratories and projects fully operational;
- Coordinate quality control review of bench-staff output;
- Maintain a laboratory budget;
- Assist in the selection and the implementation of LIMS system into the department;
- Compliance Good Clinical Practice, all relevant SOPâs and company standards and guidance;
- Initiating, study protocols/analytical plans and performs assigned scientific experiments with high degree of independence;
- Make recommendations for the performance of scientific experiments in project areas;
- Record all information and data obtained in experiments according to established procedures and SOPs;
- Develop the protocol and services within studies, in line with client requirements;
Line Management
- Review internal resource requirements and notifies Associate Director of Translational Research proactively when additional staff are required;
- Identify skill set and experience required for new staff;
- Review candidate CVs and participates in candidate interviews and selection as required;
- Assist the Associate Director of Laboratory services in determining salary offer, if applicable, in accordance with skill level, experience, and salary bands.
They requirement individuals with:
- Demonstrable line management experience
- Biological research/translation research experience
- Ideally prior experience of managing facilities
