Illumina: Training / System Support Manager (Sequencing, Array, Genotyping, illumina)
Illumina is a rapidly expanding company setting up a state of the art training facility in it European head office based near Cambridge. We are currently hiring across all levels and expanding at over 30% per year. Operating in the life science arena and developing exciting Sequencing / Array based platforms.
Basic Function and Scope of the Position:
Plays a key role in creating systematic and integrated processes and programs designed to develop employee technical expertise required to achieve business objectives. Directs the activities of customer and/or employee training in the operation of company products.
Acts as the key interface between the Field Service and Support Organization and the Business Segment, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality departments.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Plans course design and support documentation.
- Ensures training program(s) meets company and customer objectives.
- Interacts and cooperates with other personnel, customers, and functional peer groups at various levels.
- Maintains communication with customers to ensure effectiveness of training.
- Requires understanding of current product use and application.
- Coordinates the staffing and scheduling of inâ'house and field training.
- Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
- Serve as a focal point for problem resolution, and training for Illumina FSEâs, and Distributor Engineers.
- Establish procedures and assignments and delegate to lower level personnel.
- Create and conduct a professional training program for Field Service Engineers
- Report on instrument design, robustness and maintenance issues through the life cycle management organization.
- Drive the escalation of complex support issues within the company and participate in multidisciplinary teams to speed resolution.

Preferred Educational Background:
- Bachelorâs degree or equivalent in business, human resources, or related field.
Preferred Experiential Background:
- 1-2 years relevant experience.
- Management experience preferred.
- Knowledge of talent development and organization effectiveness practices a plus.
- Some experience in a biotechnology environment preferred.
- Experience with a wide variety of instructional platforms preferred.
- Excellent communication skills with a wide variety of levels and disciplines.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Talent Acquisition activities which include identifying needs of the department, justification for budget to fill positions, coordinating with HR to market the position, review resumes, conduct interviews and identify and recommend a candidate as the potential hire, and employee orientation to the department and company.
- Talent Development activities which include developing training plans with employees to ensure they have the necessary expertise to successfully perform their jobs, provide ongoing guidance to employees, and career counseling to help employees develop and advance in their careers
- Job Role Definition ensures that job descriptions accurately record the primary responsibilities, qualifications and terms for each job role in their group
- Performance Management activities include setting performance standards, ensuring employees have appropriate and realistic job goals, providing ongoing feedback about employeesâ performance, conducting performance appraisals, including assessing how the employees have performed and how they can improve their performance, developing performance improvement plans if employeesâ performance is not adequate and providing rewards for employee accomplishments.
- At higher levels of management, establishing and distributing budgets among departments is required.
- Ensure employees follow all applicable company policies and procedures
