An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Expert Searcher / Bioinformatician to join a a global biopharma company with a team of 9000 people and a strong market presence in approximately 40 countries. Their focus is on two therapeutic areas: diseases of the central nervous system (CNS), and immunology disorders. They employ around 600 staff in the UK, of whom about 400 are engaged in research and development activities. They supply over 40 UK-approved medicines and around 40% of company research is now carried out in the UK. The company has an attractive development pipeline targeting severe diseases where there is significant unmet medical need.

Role: Expert Searcher/Bio-Informatician - 6 Month Contract

Description:

Support the development of internal capabilities to meet the needs for external scientific information acquisition and provision as well as knowledge capture, sharing and collaborative mechanisms which facilitate external information and knowledge accessibility.

Ensure availability and quality of external scientific information

Ensure that researchers are equipped with the right tools and functionalities to deliver innovative research and which support their search and discovery workflows

Explore and analyse external scientific information requirements and deliver research expertise in the fields of scientific literature and patents

Impact on Research and Informatics Strategy:

Ensure that externally published scientific information is targeted and cost effective for the company and reflects the company's therapeutic focus

Ensuring that the researcher is equipped with the right tools and functionality to enable access to scientific external content in a way, which can be, used effectively in the drug discovery processes

Aggregated externally published information that can be easily combined with research data and integrated into Informatics and research based systems that will enable the researcher to make key decisions

A provider of real time external information that might expedite new opportunity and breakthrough

Required Skills:

Deep understanding of externally published scientific information including

Proprietary sources of information and its quality

Terminology

Methodologies for searching and retrieving information

Good understanding of all phases of pipeline development and scientific and patent information to support it

Good knowledge of scientific vocabularies, ontologies and how these can be applied to search and retrieval processes

Knowledge of post processing activities that will enhance the value of scientific information and how it is consumed by the researcher - including a knowledge of text mining, visualisation and analytics tools
