SRG: Open Innovation Manager

A leading global beverage business with an international reputation are seeking to appoint an Open Innovation Manager in to a newly created organisation to lead the delivery technology pipelines for the new product and technology research & development programmes. Leading several well known global soft drink and functional beverage brands this role will be responsible for seeking out technical solutions for business/product needs from the external network to enable the delivery of the innovation pipeline programme across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:
· Reporting in to the CTO and engaging with brand teams to identify and review key technology leads.
· Translates needs, together with those obtained from Supply Chain and broader scientific community into proposals for the quests for the business.
· To seek out technical solutions for identified business/product needs from the external network to enable the delivery of the agreed pipeline programme for key brands.
· Acts as a technical expert in the evaluation, approval, development and management of external opportunities.
· Represent technical wants with any established network, and to nurture the development of new networks.
· To facilitate the maintenance of external working relationships by individuals within the central technical organisation and to ensure the effective dissemination of knowledge acquired from that external network.
· Develops and maintains excellent working relationships within the business especially with central technical functions, and with influential external bodies (Trade Associations, professional bodies, academia)

The ideal candidate for this post will hold significant experience related to research and innovation in the Food & Drinks manufacturing industry with experience working with a variety of different categories including beverages. The successful candidate will be technically qualified, with a PhD or a minimum of a BSc degree, typically in a food-related science, biochemistry, health, nutrition or engineering field.

In addition we are seeking proven experience in a leadership capacity in an open innovation or similar external facing role with an established network in beverage or food research. Demonstrated ability to apply sound scientific principles, including analysis and data interpretation, techniques and decision making to facilitate rapid, early assessments of external opportunities. Knowledge and experience of food industry safety, quality and compliance requirements (HACCP, supplier quality assurance and auditing, food legislation, establishing and implementing a quality management system credited through a recognised body) is also essential.

This important role will have strategy, scientific, technical and quality direction in a lean resourced and effective organisation, therefore we are seeking likeminded individuals with demonstrable experience in a Open Innovation organisation.
