MedImmune: Scientist II - Analytical Biochemistry
Our Analytical Biochemistry (ABC) group is a world class unit working to develop new techniques, test and ensure quality and stability of emerging novel biologic molecules.
We are looking for an exceptional Scientist to work within the laboratory and support interactions with internal research groups and external collaborators, to drive the development of new technologies and methods for the analytical characterization of novel products (including non-standard Mabs and non-Mabs).
Your input will work to increase the ABC group capabilities and support future molecule delivery requirements
Core duties include:
- Play an important role in early drug development programmes by supporting the analytical characterization of novel proteins (from peptides to antibodies) through detailed structural and physicochemical studies to support research, cell line and process development, batch release and stability assessment.
- Support and manage analytical testing (using a variety of techniques) including the development and qualification of new analytical techniques within the Product Characterization team.
- Assist in the development and qualification of novel analytical techniques within the Product Characterisation team.
- Scheduling of multiple analytical programs (including protocol and report preparation, data approval, trending and tracking), with strong co-ordination of workloads and study requirements to meet required quality standards.
- Co-ordination across other R&D teams, project managers and others as required, supporting the department, project and company goals.
Experience to include:
- Strong understanding and support of analytical biochemistry methods in product characterisation, including for example HPLC, LC-MS and peptide mapping techniques, glycosylation mapping, CD, DSC
- High competence especially in mass spectrometry instrumentation and techniques including evaluation of data produced
- Developing, troubling shooting and performing formal qualification of methods for novel protein based products and the development of in-house technology
- Work as a member of the team to ensure CMC goals and objectives are met, ensuring efficient throughput of work and communication
- Ability to work independently according to established methods and SOPâs to perform analytical testing as required
- Ability to Influence scientific thinking and direction of projects
Education:Â Your career will be founded on a MSc or PhD with relevant experience.
Additional skills to demonstrate:
- Keep accurate and clear records of all work performed using approved forms in a timely manner. Where necessary, perform full data processing, tabulation and interpretation of results from assay work
- Have a good understanding of regulatory aspects appropriate to conduct of work and study integrity within product development.
- Acquire a thorough knowledge of all equipment relevant to individual and team tasks
- Independently plans, design, and execute projects within Characterisation utilising good scientific judgment
- Maintain a high level of expertise through review of current scientific literature, submissions to scientific journals, and attendance and participation at conferences focused on the research and development efforts of the company
- Manage workload scheduling, priorities and operational and maintenance duties within the laboratory
- Independently Plans, designs, and executes projects within a specific scientific field utilizing good scientific judgment
- Selection and development of new techniques with the team to further develop in-house technology
- Review and approval of data, drafting appropriate reports and process documents as required
- Attend and perform presentations at team meetings and co-ordination with other groups and project management across the MedImmune site
