Biotechnology Associate 1 - Yale University - New Haven, CT

Carries out and oversees specialized analyses using mass spectroscopy-based cell analyzer, for multidisciplinary basic science and clinical studies. Works with a high level of independence including calibration and instrument maintenance, implementation of all safety procedures, chemical conjugation of antibody reagents, providing data reports for high-throughput protocols and cost recovery.

Principal Responsibilities
1. Actively participates in biotechnology research design, implementation, and daily operation of the lab. Develops and modifies procedures and instrument operating programs.
2. Independently carries out research projects, including experimental design, development of methods, analysis of results, and translation of results to high-throughput protocols based on results. Prepares results for discussion and reporting purposes.
3. Understands, plans, and performs complex analyses and/or syntheses of nucleic acids, proteins, or other molecules. Determines the best analytical procedures to accomplish research goals. Contributes to the development of new analysis, synthesis and technologies.
4. Programs equipment with special cycle combinations and ensures special procedures are properly executed.
5. Works closely with users during the experiment to ensure optimal outcome, including advising, responding to requests and real-time data analysis.
6. Contributes data to grant proposals and manuscripts for publication.
7. Prepares reports; responds to researchers’ more complex queries about different aspects of services provided and possible modifications.
8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
Master’s Degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or other related discipline and one year experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Required Skill/Ability 1:
A demonstrated ability to make appropriate, independent decisions and to initiate suitable activity with minimal supervision is required.

Required Skill/Ability 2:
Meticulous attention to detail is required for this position. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Required Skill/Ability 3:
A demonstrated ability to perform complex experiments and/or familiarity with specialized instrumentation is required.

Required Skill/Ability 4:
An ability to work collaboratively with multiple investigators on multiple teams, for projects having competing priorities, is required.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
One year experience with analytic instrumentation in clinical or laboratory studies is required or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Preference will be given to candidates with experience using mass spectroscopy. Knowledge of mass spectroscopy research methodologies is. Recognized ability to troubleshoot and solve computer problems in a user-support role is strongly preferred.
