Curriculum Specialist - Biotechnology - Johns Hopkins University - Baltimore, MD

The general nature or purpose of the job:
Under the support and supervision of the Curriculum Developer of CTY International, the employee will develop 15-day curricula for a biotechnology course, according to the specifications and expectations provided by CTY.

The primary duties and responsibilities of the job:
Produce detailed curriculum materials for a CTY biotechnology course as specified in work-for-hire agreement. The primary duties and responsibilities of the job: Evaluate existing course materials and produce curriculum materials for a 3 week (90 contact hours) course for academically talented students, as specified in work-for-hire agreement, including all necessary handouts and instructional notes (with complete bibliographic information) that an instructor would need to teach the course. Additionally, include specific instructions for grouping, materials needed, how to set up the activities, course objectives, length of time needed for activities, etc. Additional expectations are specified in the work-for-hire agreement.

Computer or other special needs for the position:
Personal Computer; Knowledge of Excel and MS Word and its applications

Moderate degree of independent action

Internal and external contacts required as part of the job:
Contact with the primary department and other CTY Academic departments as needed.

Qualifications:Education:
Bachelor’s degree required in Biology or Biotechnology, Master’s degree is preferred. Coursework in Biotechnology is required.

Special skills and knowledge:
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; computer literate; strong pedagogical and biology/biotechnology content knowledge; experience in out-of-school time academic programs, highly desired; strong organizational skills; knowledge of both college and pre-college education, highly desired.

Related work experience:
Knowledge of course subject; knowledge of pedagogy appropriate for CTY students; 3â€"5 years of teaching experience preferred, with experience teaching biotechnology; experience working in the area of gifted education; experience writing curriculum and instruction.
