Summary
An exciting opportunity for an experienced Upstream Processing Scientist to join a company dedicated to research of synthetic biology who are at the cutting edge of this field which has huge potential. The role has been created by the expansion of the company following the success of their research into the optimisation of Biological systems producing high value products. This is a challenging yet exciting role to become a key member of this growing company, assisting with the research into the unique and exciting field of Synthetic Biology.
The Company
The company was founded in 2011 with some of the leading minds in their field with the aim to create a platform technology for the engineering of complex biological processes for use across multiple industrial sectors. The company synthetically engineer microbes to produce high value biological products such as proteins (e.g. enzymes), and biologically based chemicals for example fine and specialty chemicals. To achieve their aim of improving the synthesis of higher value biological and chemical products the company integrates a wide variety of disciplines including computational modelling, data analysis, wet lab experiments and molecular biological tools. They pride themselves on their innovative approach using the knowledge of their employees to create new and innovative method driving forward their research. The company believes the field of Synthetic Biology offers massive potential with the potential to benefit the world improving human health, and deliver cleaner sources of chemicals and fuels.
The Role
You will be responsible for designing and the running the Upstream Processing experiments to assist with the research into the companyâs novel platform technology. As the subject matter expert you will advise on a technical basis both internally and externally. This means you will be an important member of the team and subsequently this role comes with a lot of responsibility. You will be working in a fast paced environment to produce results using your expertise and knowledge to design innovative processes. As well as designing gene constructs as part of the role you will then be able to design assays to then ascertain the success of the experiments, analyse the results to then be presented to clients.
Experience
The successful applicant must have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject for example Molecular Biology / Biochemistry / Biotechnology or similar ideally with some post doctoral or relevant industrial experience. You will need to have the ability to design complex gene constructs and to adapt these to achieve different results depending on what is required. To complement this you will be able to design and implement a variety of assays to quantify the biochemical activity of the test sample. This is a challenging role for someone who enjoys working in a fast paced environment acting under your own initiative to solve complex problems.
