Lonza: Purification Development Scientist
Due to an increase in customer projects we have an exciting opportunity for a Scientist to join our busy Purification Development team.

To design and perform laboratory experiments, with periodic guidance, to test the suitability and effectiveness of various chromatographic, filtration and other procedures for the purification of proteins.

Duties include but not limited to:
    * Performing virus validation studies to demonstrate the effectiveness of purification processes for the reduction of viruses. This will involve travel to an external contract facility to perform the virus spiking studies.
    * Interpret data from development studies or validation studies obtained and to plan the next set of experiments where required.
    * To analyse protein samples by a variety of analytical techniques.
    * Ensure that experimental details, raw data and results are recorded as appropriate and that the study report is an accurate account of the study.
    * Perform validation studies to demonstrate the effectiveness of purification processes.
    * To work as part of a project team to complete projects on time and to budget and to regularly communicate results by means of verbal presentations and written reports to both internal groups and to customers.
    * Preparation of study protocols and reports (cGMP) to document purification validation activities for regulatory submissions as appropriate
    * Ensure that equipment and materials required for a study are used as defined by GMP and regulatory requirements
    * To perform purification development and validation studies for antibodies and other recombinant proteins being manufactured by Lonza Biologics.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
    * First degree in Biochemistry or in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. Biotechnology or Applied Biology). For recent graduates, a project, industrial placement or a summer job related to protein purification would be a strong advantage.
    * Ideally some experience of or knowledge of virus reduction studies.
    * A working knowledge of the theory of protein purification and protein structure is required.
    * Some knowledge of GLP/GMP is desirable but not essential.
    * Strong practical laboratory skills and an enthusiasm for science are essential.
