Position Title: Biotechnology Lecturer

Appointment: Part-time non-tenure-track

Starting Date: August 21, 2013

Position Description: The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater invites applications for a one year, part-time appointment as an instructor for intermediate level courses. Primary teaching responsibilities will include biotechnology lab methods I (254) with the potential for the coverage of additional classes, including genetics lab (Bio 251), for the 2013-2014 academic year. Course assignments will complement current faculty. This position is not eligible for tenure.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in a biological science is preferred, A.B.D. will be considered. Successful candidates must demonstrate their potential to be outstanding teachers and active contributors of the department and university.

Salary: Competitive and negotiable.

Salmonella spreads by targeting cells in our gut, study shows

Dec. 11, 2012 — Scientists have gained fresh insights into how the salmonella bug makes us ill. University of Edinburgh researchers have found that the bacteria are able to change key cells that line the intestine, enabling the bugs to thrive. By changing the make-up of these cells, the salmonella bacteria are able to cross the gut wall. Food poisoning Salmonella food poisoning -- commonly caused by eating undercooked poultry or eggs -- can lead to diarrhea, fever and even death in young children.
