This is an exciting opportunity to join a medium sized Clinical Research Organisation based in central London.

The Translational Research manager will have direct responsibility for the management of the virology laboratory staff and peripheral laboratory operations. The job holder ensures the Health and Safety of the laboratory, liaises with the health and safety executive, site operations and building management to ensure the safe regress of biological waste. Furthermore the post holder will liaise with Project Directors, QC and QA functions, to schedule and manage resource requirements across all projects. They will line manage the Principle Research Scientist, Research Scientists and the Research Assistants ensuring that staff are trained and they have sufficient staffing to conduct the assigned work.

The Key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

1. Maintain all licenses and documents concerning calibrations, validations and maintenance pertinent to the virology laboratories.

2. Assist in the selection of new equipment

3. Oversee the training of staff on equipment and laboratory procedures

4. Responsibility for Health and Safety of the laboratory (including conducting risk assessments)

5. Liaising with the laboratory manager to identify materials and consumables to be used, monitors stock usage and coordinates the delivery of supplies.

6. Liaise with project management regarding timelines

7. Maintain a project and staffing schedule

8. Coordinate laboratory time and equipment scheduling

9. Work with the Project Management team to understand the scope of each piece of work, calculating resource requirement

10.Ensure compliance with GCP guidelines.

Ideally the right candidate:

  1. Experience in laboratory operations management
  2. Experience managing, training and growing the laboratory team
  3. Strong people management skills
  4. Experience in managing laboratory facilities
  5. Experience in line and resource management
