MedImmune: Scientist - Protein Purification

MedImmune currently require an exceptionally strong Protein Purification Scientist to join our Downstream Processing team and be a part of our Biopharmaceutical Development group.

With a main focus on process development this role involves the development of protein purification processes and their transfer into manufacturing to support clinical trials. Supporting an exciting pipeline across all MedImmune therapeutic areas.

Core Duties:

  • Small to medium scale protein purification across a wide range of techniques.
  • Preparation and production of purified material for R&D activities.
  • Protein purification process development and improvement.
  • Protein analysis - using standard methods including HPLC, SDS PAGE, Spectrophotometer
  • Maintaining accurate records and lab books.
  • Representing Downstream Processing at CMC project meetings
  • Report writing/presentations to team, dept., company and externally.

Your previous experience will provide:

  • Significant experience within Protein Purification and development of protein purification processes. Working on development of purification processes for antibodies and complex proteins is essential. Experience of technical transfer from development to manufacturing would be advantageous.
  • Good knowledge of protein chemistry.
  • Knowledge of protein structural biochemistry.
  • Experience handling and analysing proteins e.g. SDS Page, HPLC etc.
  • Experience working with antibodies and other proteins for therapeutic use.
  • Understanding of the principles of chromatography scale up and clinical manufacture.
  • A strong understanding of process development and scalability within a development function.
  • Use of design of experiments (DOE) and process modelling
  • Knowledge of controlled environments such as GMP.

Education: You will hold a highly relevant PhD or have built your industrial experience on a BSc in a relevant subject e.g., Biology/Biochemistry based

Salmonella spreads by targeting cells in our gut, study shows

Dec. 11, 2012 — Scientists have gained fresh insights into how the salmonella bug makes us ill. University of Edinburgh researchers have found that the bacteria are able to change key cells that line the intestine, enabling the bugs to thrive.
